~Rydal Round~
1st December 2013
On our way to Borrowdale and just enough time for a short walk.
Rydal Cave
Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk....
To Rydal Water
Parking at Pelter Bridge for a small fee, we set off for Rydal Water.
Rydal Water
A calm scene on this first day of December. All colour now drained from the deciduous trees.

Inside Out |
A small barrier is designed to deter visitors from entering the cave. The "keep out" (or whatever it said) sign has gone and everyone enjoys the gentle scramble past the woodwork and has a closer look at the old quarry.
The Walk
The circuit of Rydal Water crosses River Rothay and goes through White Moss car park (toilets available) before climbing up to the terrace and heading back towards the start point.
Gate Catch of The Day
This bendy gate opener on the return leg is today's favourite.

New Trees |
Plenty of new trees have been planted to make up for the many fallen and ageing ones.
Walkers: Karen and me.
Time taken: 1hrs 40mins over a distance of about 3 miles.
Route: Pelter Bridge, clockwise around Rydal Water. No need for GPS.
Weather and Conditions: Rather grey, calm.
Greetings Count: Steady.
Refreshments: A short break on the way up at Kirkby Lonsdale. We tried "The Green Room" and we were not disappointed. Their homemade "tomato, red pepper and basil soup" was delicious! No tiffin, or not that I could see, the search continues ...
